Celebrating World Oceans Day at Whale's Tale
Here in Cape May the ocean is an integral part of our lives. World Oceans Day is a day for us to celebrate the ocean, show our appreciation for it and bring awareness to the issues it's currently facing.
On Sunday, June 10th, we are celebrating the ocean outside the Whale's Tale from 1-4pm, with informative exhibits from the New Jersey Surfrider Foundation, authors Cindy Bilbao & Eileen Clancy Biegel and a sea creature touch tank with a live Horseshoe Crab from the Nature Center of Cape May.
The Surfrider Foundation is dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the World's oceans, waves and beaches. They will be raising awareness of the plastic epidemic plaguing our seas.
Cindy Bilbao is an authority on sea glass and will be sharing her wisdom with sea glass enthusiasts and signing copies of her book. She is an accomplished sea glass photographer and lover of the ocean.
Eileen Clancy Biegel is the author of award-winning Ocean One: Only One Ocean...Only One Chance. With a background in environmental sciences, her book teaches children the affects of marine debris in an accessible way. She will be on hand to help us learn how, we too, can make a difference.
The Nature Center of Cape May will be bringing lots of interesting creatures for us to admire and learn about. It's fun for all ages! Admission is free we hope to you can join us!

Art Opening with local artist David Macomber Saturday, May 26th
On May 26th, 2018 from 3pm-6pm local artist, David Macomber, will be unveiling three original works of art in our gallery Splash. He will be on hand to discuss the inspiration behind his work and his upbringing as a Cape May local deeply embedded in the commercial fishing community.
David's Storms series is a metaphor for life and how we learn our best lessons from navigating stormy waters as opposed to calm seas. Coming from a commercial fishing family he understands first hand that all life revolves around the power of the sea, particularly in Cape May.
Prints and reproductions will also be available. Light refreshments will be served.
This year marks the 100th Anniversary of the completion of local landmark the S.S. Atlantus - the Concrete Ship. Launched December 5th, 1918, it is the most famous of the 12 concrete ships built by the Liberty Ship Building Company in Brunswick, Georgia.
In its heyday, the Atlantus was used to transport American troops home from Europe following World War I. Despite its crumbling condition 150 feet off the coast of Sunset Beach, the historical significance of the Atlantus as a vessel of homecoming and safe passage make it the perfect muse and worthy of David's brush.
Join us for an afternoon celebrating the local seafaring culture and one of Cape May's finest artists.
Reception will be held at Splash - Whale's Tale Gallery
513 Carpenters Lane
Cape May, New Jersey
